Mutual Observation, by Petra Leetch
From the series Not Everyone Sees the Same Cat
She stands beneath the glowing red moon looking directly into the eyes of a black cat with a slight cheeky smile. The black cat stares back at her, almost as if it understands every little thing about her, even the secrets she has never spoken aloud. The word around them is silent, except for the tall, glowing lantern that casts a warm light across the cold might air.
She does not fear the darkness. In fact she embraces it, wrapped in her elegant black velvet cloak, calm and mysterious beneath the blue night sky. The cat curls its tail gently around her hand, as though it belongs there. Together, they seem less like strangers and more like old friends meeting once again beneath the crimson moon.
There is a magical stillness as they look into each other’s eyes, a quite understanding that words could not explain. For a moment, time itself seems to pause, leaving only the woman, the cat, and the soft lantern glow beside them.
